Norman Style Angel Wing Gown

A beautiful gown with full sleeves and a wide, scoop or keyhole neckline.  This style gown reached its fashion peak in the early 1100s, but was worn for several decades before and after.

Trim is normally applied on the upper part of the sleeves and may be applied around the neckline.  We can also add trim around the sleeve hems and around the bottom of the dress.  This type of gown was usually worn with an underdress in period.

This gown is normally worn with a belt or girdle.  Many reenactors wear the ubiquitous "ring belt", but a more correct girdle would be a long cord which was placed simply round the waist and loosely knotted; or wound round above the waist once, crossed behind the back, then knotted in front, with the ends allowed to hang down.  The ends of the girdle often had tassels and knots depending from them.
